Driving Fashion: Cufflinks

If I were a boy, I know what I would order, stick-shift cufflinks. Car fashion has arrived! You can buy them here.

Today is The Day!

The Blondie song Call Me, has been floating around in my head all day, and then it finally happened - the phone rang. Today I get my car back! I will once again join the land of drivers like the zombies behind the wheels they are... That makes me want to watch that new movie Zombieland. I am a sucker for cars and zombies. I can say (please don't turn your backs on me when I write this) that I didn't miss my car that much. Strange? I thought to myself how would I make it? What would I do? However, my mobility was pretty easy to achieve. I rode the bus to work, and my friends picked me up at night. However, the one thing that your car provides you with is FREEDOM. The freedom to come and go as you please. The freedom to make your own decisions. The freedom to buy groceries. I am a tiny girl, and can't carry much home from the store, so to say my cupboards have been bare is putting it mildly. Oatmeal has been my best friend *sigh*

However, all of that will change when I get back behind the wheel. I wonder if it will feel foreign to me to drive? One summer I was away, and didn't step foot in a car for about two months. When I hit the road again, I almost felt that I forgot how to drive... Will that happen again? I will be sure to share my findings with you.

Your Trunk is Filled With What...

I would like to think that people keep more than dead bodies in the trunk of their cars. One thing that I have noticed about people who live in Los Angeles, is that they spend (sometimes) hours in the car. According to the University of California, The average daily duration for driving a car was 101 minutes. Therefore, people's cars transform into moving places were clothes, food, and other random items are stored - EVERY WHERE! However, one of the main places to stash clutter/items, is in the trunk, if you want to appear that you don't live out of the car. Currently, my trunk is so full, that I can't place anything else in it! What is wrong with me??

Items in the trunk are as follows:
1. a bag of clothes I meant to sell, but haven't done yet
2. a AC unit, which doesn't fit into my new apt
3. a bag of boots that should be on Ebay
4. a pad of watercolor paper & paints
5. a employee handbook

My trunk is out of control!!!! Note to self, when your car is back from the dealer, stop at the first Goodwill, and drop everything off. However, now is a great time for cleaning out my trunk, and placing items that should be in there. For example, a first-aid kit, water, and road emergency kit, please click here for a great list from the website Home Institute. I came across a article telling people how to escape from the trunk of a car, it seems a little morbid, however, I will link it here.

Just remember dead bodies are bad, but first aid kits are good. Take care of you, and your car!

Walking in LA, Nobody Walks in LA

Yesterday marked the third and FINAL body shop that I dropped my car off to! This journey started about a month ago when my intern hit my car, please click here, if you missed that story. Body shop number #1: I dropped my car off (for the second time) because it was hit in my work parking-lot. Hours later, assuming the work was already started on the car, I got a phone call from the shop, shop manager, insurance representative, and the claims adjuster. Needless to say - no one was doing their job right- and I had to figure everything out, which lead me to remove my car because I was unsure if the shop was trying to rip me/insurance company off. They wanted to replace the whole left-side of my car, and the insurance wouldn't agree to that. So, I picked up my car... When I received my car, it was covered in pink marker highlighting all of the dings and dents. Driving around like that was awesome until I took it to shop #2. Before I made the mistake of leaving it at the shop I thought I would ask their opinion to clarify (on my end) who was trying to rip me off. Insurance company vs. shop, maybe both in this war of my sanity and nerves. I was only out of my car for 5 minutes until the guy started speaking AT ME instead of answering my questions. Also, he said the same thing about removing the side of my car, which made me question him, especially due to what the insurance said. Hhhmmm... I hopped in my car, and just drove away. Generally, people you should listen to your gut about things, and mine was telling me to leave. Finally, shop #3. Honda of Hollywood I showed up, and we TALKED about the course of my car, and actually provided me with information to my questions. WOW, why was that so hard every where else, so I left my car to be repaired. Enterprise was already there waiting, and I hitched a ride to pick up my rental. This story starts with in the same week my car got hit, moved my apartment, and left for Ireland. I advise you not to do all of these things in one week! Once I arrived to pick up my rental (thanks insurance!) I finally felt as though this was done with. However, I lost my license in the move, and passports don't pass in auto-world. I got a ride back to work, and was a bit lost as what to do. NOBODY WALKS IN LA - like The Missing Person's song Walking in LA So... I looked into bus routes. WOW! LA has very limited public transportation, however, I am determined to master it. For the next week I will be riding on the Dash Bus Today I literally helped a old lady off the bus, and it made me feel good! Saving the environment, helping people, and getting ride-share points from work, I might do this more often...

Finally, just to top off the story, I locked myself out of my house last night because I forgot my house-key on the same key ring as my car, it might be good idea to have a spare or a separate key-chain. No worries, I made it into my apartment alive and healthy!

I hope you can laugh at this, or learn from my mistakes or observations. I know I am trying!!!!!

Racing Gloves & The Night I Drove His Car

A casual goodbye one night allowed me to stumble upon the fact that one of my friends drives with racing gloves, and keeps them in his car at-all-times. Naturally, I was very intrigued by this situation... I was saying my rounds of goodbyes, when I was offered the chance to drive my friend's car, while wearing his racing gloves! I swiped the keys from his hand, and we took off! Driving late at night in LA, is one of the most enjoyable things to do. The roads are clear, and you can have your way with them. Also, driving with someone allows the chance to share secret moments that are just between each other in this confined space. However, this was the first time I drove a car with gloves on, and I would like to think it enhanced my performance ability. My hands gripped the steering wheel with ease allowing me to take corners better. Everyday driving should include gloves. I have checked around, and a company called Moreschi makes really great gloves. Click here to look at them.
