Where Does The U.S. Automaker Go Wrong

I have a couple of thoughts swirling around in my head today... Do marketing campaigns determine growth? Should marketing campaigns consider the internet/techonolgy as a viable outlet for marketing. People spend a average of 4 hours a day on the internet - not just reading/sending emails. Also, how does this apply to cars??? Audi is proposing that some of what the U.S. automakers are doing wrong, is with their marketing/advertising campaigns. I do believe this to be true, however, there is much more that is being done wrong. In this video Audi CMO, Scott Keogh, lays out the 3 campaigns that Audi has created, that have been successful. Therefore, marketing (obviously) does play a role. However, much like the music industry I feel like people are missing what is right in front of them. The blaring obvious!!! U.S. Automakers make bad cars. This is not rocket science people. BAD CARS! I have had many discussions with my friends when they were getting ready to purchase a new car, and not one of them bought a domestic car. I am going to bullet point some of the top reasons they don't.

*They will break down
*They loose their resell value
*When they break down, it will be major
*They are ugly cars (vanity)
*Poor gas mileage

The list will continue. I think the car companies should start over. First, rename the company. Then make a reliable, attractive, environmentally friendly car. Rebuild Detroit with green factories that produce these cars.

It doesn't seem that complicated to me, so car companies, if you read this blog, take note of what could be...

Detroit Auto Show Update

My amazing friend Seth, had this to say about the autoshow, "Judging by the Detroit Auto Show photos, I'd say automakers are returning to that whackass late 90's Calvin and Hobbes spaceship look." Take a look at these pictures, he is totally right!

Oh Yeah, I have a car blog?

Cars move forward, and so must this blog. I am back from the dead like a zombie trying to eat your brains. Car coverage will happen once again with zeal! There was yet another car show in Detroit, and the automakers unvieled their "concept" cars. Joseph B. White, at the Wall Street Journal, had this to say, Car makers use auto-show concept cars, usually one-of-a-kind prototypes built by hand, to capture the imaginations of the press and public with flashy visions of what might come tomorrow. Some show cars are pure whimsy, confections dreamed up by young designers at play."

Check out what automakers presented to the public, and take a vote online. I especially liked the Audi E-Tron. Let me know what is your favorite new concept car.

Coming in the future...
*Road Beers?
*Stalking peeps on the streets (for their cars - of course!)
*Top Gear - I love you.

Enjoy the new year, and drive with haste people
